East coast lights-up

We're coming to the end of the best week of surf I've had for at least the past 18 months thanks to Tropical Cyclone Grant that pushed some solid swell along the east coast of Australia.

On Tuesday the wind swung to the south west and the swell was rolling in from the north east. All you had to do was find a suitable southern corner and you'd find heaven.Tuesday started with 6ft+ sets rolling through and by Sunday, the first day of 2012 we had some of the best logging waves I've surfed in my home town of Lake Macquarie. Stoked. GG.

Hello 2012

Just a quick thank you to everyone that supported us through 2011. We look forward to another fun year ahead. After meeting some great new friends during the year, we can't wait to see what 2012 brings us.
A magic finish to the year, with some fun waves, was given to us all on the east coast by Tropical Cyclone Grant. GG.

Rocky ledge

A mate I surf with has another interest, photography. Here's a couple of snaps he took while in town a few weeks back. Don't ask me why but I've never surfed this rocky ledge, I guess that day will happen when it's ready.

Almond "Coffee-Break Commuter" Skateboards

Cameron Oden

The ultra talented Nathan Oldfield asked us to get him an Almond skatey, so we did. I also grabed a couple for stock. Deck hand shaped by Eric Maki in California, Carver C7 trucks, oak veneer ply wood with tinted stripe. Flat rocker 32" x 9" x .5"

Bing Trimulux

Available as a square tail or a pintail, this model’s name says it all. This board can be ridden 2” smaller in length then most traditional single fins because of it’s relatively little rocker. Flat on the deck and the bottom with a slight blended concave, Matt keeps this model an 1/8” thinner than most of the Bing models while maintaining the board’s thickness to an eggy 50/50 rail. This gives the board extra glide and turning sensitivity as well as ample noseriding ability for it’s size. The surfer who chooses this model will get a whole lot of performance without a whole lot of board!

We've now got the Trimulux in stock in 9'2", 9'4" and 9'6". Looking forward to getting our 9'4" demo to share around.

Almond Cash-Yewwwww

The Cash-Yew is essentially a scaled-down Log Rhythm, that has been foiled into a flat, responsive midlength. Perfect for getting head dips on peaky, chest-high days. We gave the Cash-Yew some edge in the tail, so it pushes through cutbacks like a shorter board. The weight and flatter rocker make this thing a dream for getting into waves early and trimming around sections. A summer-time favorite of Dave.
Singlefin box comes standard.Recommended between 7'6 and 8'415.75 x 21 x 15 x 2 7/8

A 7'8" and a 7'11" now in stock at The Shop Next Door, Manly. Ph 02 99 77 55 69.

The new family/work wagon

Seemed to take forever too arrive but it's finally here. Still need to upgrade the suspension and a few small changes, otherwise it's all go. I was planning to have it as my daily driver but it's turned out to have a 383 stroked 350 small block, roller cam, etc, etc. Might need to buy shares in Caltex haha.

New ad in Foam Symmerty :)

Simon Perini has put together another fine ad for us once again. Check it out in volume 1, number 1 of FOAM SYMMERTY. The launch of the mag was held at The Sugarmill and it was a chance to catch up with some old friends and to meet plenty of new ones.

Cyrus Sutton--The Surfer's Journal

Cyrus Sutton scored the cover of Surfers Jounral with this amazing shot from his Go-Pro that he had mounted on the end of a pole. This shot represents what logging is all about, tip time :) Well done Cy.

Redhead Beach, the last day of Spring 2011.

My mate Dave Chung has had 22 surfs this past month and this is the sunrise that greeted him this morning. Getting up early makes it worth while when you get to whitness colours like this and it's a bonus when the waves are on your side. It's a beautiful day outside.

Jack

The surf has been pretty ordinary this week so I've found a couple pics of local Bing team rider Jack Norton getting a few waves earlier in the year. The top snap was at Catho on his Bing Trimulux and the bottom one's at a reliable little bank that was hanging around Blackies this winter on his Bing Elevator.

Bing Trimulux

Aussie Bing team rider Jack Norton has been riding his Trimulux the past couple of months and has given it the thumbs up. We've now got a 9'2" and a 9'6" on their way over.

From the Bing website:Available as a square tail or a pintail, this model’s name says it all.

Huon's custom Bing Elevator

Huon came around this morning and picked up his custom Elevator and he's pretty chuffed how it turned out. One for riding all sorts from alaias, hulls and anything else he can get under his feet and now a new log. Enjoy.

9'7" Cy's Aquatic Almond.

Dave and the guys at Almond have built us another board for OZ, a 9'7" Cy's Aquatic Almond. All the Cy models have sold before they've landed here so if you're interested you'd better put your name on it.
As seen in the film “Stoked and Broke” This is the board we developed with Cyrus Sutton for surfing Cardiff Reef. The outline is extra wide for stability and planning through sections. This pintail has a slightly tucked rail for lively turns. Step in the deck to keep it lean and mean on the nose.
Singlefin box or glass-on “Pin” fin by Gully comes standard.
Recommended between 9’2 and 9’8 18.75 x 23.5 x 16.5 x 3

Sacred Craft stock

I saw these two boards heading for the Bing booth at the Sacred Craft expo and couldn't let them go and thought they'd be better off in Australia, so they're now on their way over. Can't wait to see them.

Mic's Bing Elevator

Mic from the South Coast ordered himself a 9'0" Bing Elevator and the colour combo turned out sweet. He's formed into a bit of a Bing fan with also having a Dharma to his specs getting built right now. Might make a trip south to deliver this one and sneak in a few waves while I'm there.

Aqua tint with a white dot Dharma

Just took delivery of this little Bing Dharma. We got this one built with a tint colour to add a little bit of weight to give the board a bit of extra glide. 5'10".

Bing Speed Square. 3'11" and beyond...

We just took delivery of our first Bing Speed Square and this little thing is amazing. Just like the Mach-7 we all grew up surfing on when we first hit the water but with a few key elements changed. Huge single concave under the tail and a pair of keel fins, these babies fly. This one is a 4'6" with a 4'2" getting built and a couple of 4'4" on their way over.
Click on the Youtube clip below for more details on the board.

Cameron's Bing Levitator looks so good.

Cameron's in Bali at the moment but when he returns he'll be coming back to his new Levitator. The dark green with the white glass-on fin and white logo look so good together. Cameron's local to where I surf so I might have to apprehend it for a few waves. Enjoy...

Almond Handplanes

Just as essential to body surfing as fins- used to generate speed by reducing drag in the water.
Each is hand made by Gully himself in a multi-stringer setup with a linseed oil finish.
Only a handful left.

Classic Gull. MR Backdoor Pipeline 1975.

Classic Gull. Cool, caluclating and confident. MR backdoor Pipeline 1975. Love this shot.

MR today (31-07-11) now in his 50's and still surfing so well. Such a great surfer to watch even though he was on a SUP!!! Respect...

I've always been a fan of MR and being a born and bred Novocastrian myself makes me more appreciative of him.

63 Chev Impala wagon

Updated 16-08-11: Started to do a few little changes while the car's still in CA waiting for it's import approval. 1st the 17" American Racing Wheels are gone and replaced with an original set of 63 SS impala hub caps, lucky find thanks to Lincon and his Dad. Now to get the disc brake front end and power steer fitted by Dude (yep, that's his real name) and maybe the luxury of A/C.

About 10 years ago I had a neat left hand drive 57 4 door hard top Chev and we decided to sell it to start our little family. Well we're finally back at a stage where it's time for a new toy. Picked up this neat 63 Chev Impala wagon packed full of goodies. It's still in North Carolina so it could end up being an adventure in itself to get the car to California ready for shipping. Anyone keen on a road trip across the States??? Can't wait....

Raoul @ Sandtrax.

I love the colours in this shot taken by Toby Petley, owner of Oceanstyle Longboards in West OZ of Bing team rider Raoul on his Bing NR Slim. Raoul snuck in a late surf at Sandtrax last week and had it all to himself, makes me want to head over to WA.
They both spent a couple of weeks in Java recently, I'll post of few pics and a little wrap up of their trip soon.
